News March 2022

All of this is okay. But we are not completely helpless; we can actively help and also expect that the need for assistance will be long-term. I would like to point out the resource pomahejukrajine.cz, where we can choose a way to get involved actively (financially, materially, or through work). In our parish, we collected 31,200 crowns during the fundraising for humanitarian aid to Ukraine on Sunday, February 27! Allow me to thank all of you who contributed!

The Borromean Sisters Foundation has launched a collection to assist Ukraine! They are organizing material aid provided through the Goretti Hangars, where they operate a furniture bank. The foundation is also announcing a collection for financial assistance. If you decide to support this Borromean project, you can find all the information on the foundation's website www.nadacesesterboromejek.cz and also on social media. The leadership of the foundation and the Borromean Sisters appreciate your support and thank you for it. May God bless you.

In the week starting March 6, we will have an online Bible study on Tuesday at 8:30 PM. On Thursday, the parish pastoral council will meet at 7 PM in the St. Martin Church. On Friday at 4:45 PM, the preparation for children's first holy communion will continue (currently only one interested child is participating, others are welcome). After the Friday Mass, we will pray the Stations of the Cross. I also want to draw your attention to the parish spiritual renewal on March 19, the Renewal seminar in the Spirit according to Sieverse, and the Lenten sermon in the Church of All Saints at Prague Castle; all the information can be found in the article from the previous month, and flyers are attached to this article.

In the week starting Sunday, March 13, we will have an online catechism class on Tuesday at 8:30 PM, continuing the topic of biblical anthropology. On Wednesday at 3 PM, there will be a farewell for Sr. Goretti at the Church of the Holy Family. After the Holy Mass, her body will be laid to rest at the local cemetery of the Sisters. The obituary of the deceased sister can be found in the attachment to this article. This week, the preparation for children's first holy communion will not continue as the children have spring break. After the Friday Mass, we will pray the Stations of the Cross. A spiritual renewal of the parish will take place on Saturday. Details are written in the article from the previous month; the poster is attached to this article. Please register by Wednesday; it will greatly facilitate our organization.

In the week of March 20, we will have an online Bible study on Tuesday at 8:30 PM, and on Friday we will continue the preparation for children's first holy communion. On Thursday, we start the Renewal seminar in the Spirit according to Sieverse. Because Friday is the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, there will be no Stations of the Cross after Mass. On Saturday from 9 AM to 12 PM, there will be a work day at the Church of the Holy Family. Please come to help if you can. Next Sunday, March 27, is the deadline for submitting proposals for candidates for the pastoral council elections. The collection next Sunday is designated for charitable activities in the archdiocese.

In the week of March 27, there will be a Holy Mass at the Church of the Holy Family on Tuesday followed by Taizé prayer. Then, at 8:30 PM, we will continue with the online catechism hour, again focusing on biblical anthropology. On Friday at 4:45 PM, the preparation for children's first holy communion continues, and after the Mass, we will pray the Stations of the Cross. At 7 PM in the Church of the Holy Family, there will be another synodal meeting. We will again reflect on the themes raised by the parish part of the synodal process; everyone is invited to this meeting. On Saturday, April 2, starting at 9 AM, we call for help with cleaning and work around the Church of St. Martin.

As of Monday, March 14, the government has lifted the obligation to wear masks during the Holy Mass. The bishops have also written us a message, which I am attaching to this article. I would like to personally thank all of you who have been patient and endured discomfort during the Holy Masses over the past two years. The option to sanitize hands will remain available in the church. This time may have also taught us that these protective measures can become a regular part of our considerate behavior in church when we do not feel completely healthy. It is a welcome opportunity to take a breather, even if it comes at a time when this small relief may be overshadowed by our concern for the people of Ukraine and all those suffering due to the war.

Next Friday, March 25, 2022, on the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, at 5 PM, Pope Francis, during the penitential service he will preside over, will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The same act will be performed on the same day in Fatima by Cardinal Konrad Krajewski as the Holy Father's envoy. For this prayer meeting, which at the Pope's request should also take place in cathedrals, Marian shrines, parishes, and religious communities around the world, the Holy Father, together with the bishops, also invites all believers. Please join together as you are able in this prayer for peace in Ukraine and for the end of the war conflict! In our parish, there will be a Holy Mass at that hour; we will thus be united in prayer during its celebration. We will include this intention in the intercessions... But if you are anywhere else, you can join this act with your intention and prayer.

This year, we are looking forward to the elections for the parish pastoral council. The term of office is 5 years. The elections will be held on Sunday, April 24. I am announcing the names of the electoral committee, which will begin accepting written nominations for candidates for the pastoral council on Sunday, March 6. The electoral committee consists of: Helena Chvalová, Jindřich Chval, and Jiří Veselý. The electoral committee accepts written nominations in an envelope immediately after the Sunday Mass in the sacristy at the Holy Family. The deadline for submission is March 27. Proposed candidates will then be asked if they accept their nomination. The following Sunday, April 3, the list of candidates will be published and voting ballots will be prepared.
