In the week beginning January 30, we will celebrate this feast on Wednesday during the holy mass, when candles will be blessed. There will be no online catechism class this Tuesday. At 2 PM on Tuesday, there will be a farewell for Mr. Jiří Svět in the Church of the Holy Family. On Thursday, we will celebrate the memorial of Bishop and Martyr St. Blaise. At the end of the holy mass, the traditional St. Blaise blessing will be given.
In the week of Sunday, February 6, there will be an online Bible study on Tuesday. Friday is World Day of the Sick. We want to remember our suffering brothers and sisters in our prayers during the holy mass. Additionally, it will also be possible to receive the sacrament of anointing of the sick during the holy mass. I recommend this sacrament to anyone who is seriously ill, but also to all those whose advanced age weakens their bodies. It is advisable to prepare for this sacrament by receiving the sacrament of reconciliation.
In the week of February 13, the following events await us: on Monday at 5 PM, there will be a meeting of altar servers in the Church of the Holy Family. On Tuesday at 8:30 PM, there will be an online catechism class. On Thursday at 7 PM, the pastoral council will meet in the sacristy of St. Martin's Church. The collection next Sunday is designated for St. Peter's Pence. On the website of the Ministry of Health, there has been a minor adjustment of measures for holding worship: everything remains unchanged, social distancing is recommended, hand sanitization is advisable, and face masks are required throughout the service.
In the week of February 20, there will be holy mass on Tuesday at the Church of the Holy Family, followed by prayer with Taizé songs after the mass. There will also be no online Bible class this Tuesday.
The preparation of children for First Holy Communion will begin on Friday, March 4, at 4:45 PM in the Church of the Holy Family. It will take place every Friday at this location unless stated otherwise. I ask parents who are interested in the preparation to register with me personally or via email.
In the parish, we will also be organizing a seminar "Living in the Spirit according to Sievers." This consists of 12 evening meetings, which will generally take place on Thursdays after the holy mass (6:45 PM—8:45 PM) from March 24 to June 9, culminating in a sending service. At each of them, we can look forward to a moment of communal prayer, a valuable lecture, and sharing in small groups. The entire seminar also includes a service of penance (with the sacrament of reconciliation), prayer for a greater and deeper outpouring of the Holy Spirit (intercessory prayer), and sending to service. Besides the desire for personal spiritual growth, there is also an expectation and possibility to complete the entire seminar without foreseeable absences. Each participant will take away seven mandatory "homework assignments" from each meeting. These must be devoted each day to a "quiet time," at least 15-20 minutes. They consist of short passages from Scripture relating to the lecture heard. At the next meeting, they will share with the others in the group about their experience of how they managed or did not manage to reflect and pray over the text. We are preparing a flyer and registration form...
The week starting Sunday, February 27, is marked by the war events in Ukraine. We cannot remain unmoved by the suffering of those affected. The bishops of Bohemia and Moravia announced a collection for the support of Ukraine this Sunday, which will be provided through Charity Czech Republic. A flyer for the collection is attached to the article. Furthermore, tomorrow's masses will be held using the "In Time of War" liturgy, and we will implore peace with our prayers...
On Tuesday, there will be an online catechism class. Ash Wednesday is a day of strict fasting, which means that the fast from meat applies and also a fast of abstinence (one full meal per day), which binds Catholic Christians from ages 18 to 60. Pope Francis calls us to offer this fast for peace in Ukraine. On Friday at 4:45 PM, we begin preparations for First Holy Communion in the Church of the Holy Family. After the holy mass, we will pray the Stations of the Cross throughout Lent. We invite the participants of the synod on Saturday, March 5, after the holy mass in the Church of the Holy Family to share about the synodal process.
We invite you to the parish's Lenten spiritual renewal, which will take place at Strahov. Registration for easier provision of refreshments is open here on the website. A flyer for the event is attached.
We also invite you to the aforementioned seminar Renewal in the Spirit according to Sievers, which we will start in the parish on Thursday, March 24, after the holy mass and will last for 12 weeks in this timeframe, except during Holy Week, when the meeting will take place on Tuesday. A flyer is attached, and registration is here.
I also want to draw attention to a series of Lenten sermons at the Church of All Saints at Prague Castle; a flyer for the event is attached to this article.
You can also get acquainted with the pastoral plan of our parish for this year.
I wish you all the best!
